All teams in the A, AA, AAA and Intermediate divisions will be required to provide to LFLL’s Umpire in Chief (“UIC”) a “team” of volunteer umpires. These volunteers will be required to attend a rules clinic as well as a mechanics clinic. No volunteer will be allowed to umpire AA, AAA or Intermediate games without first attending both these clinics. If volunteers cannot be recruited, the responsibility will fall to the coaching staff. The responsibilities below may be adjusted depending on the needs of each division.
To help prepare for the transition from the non-competitive to competitive divisions, single A managers are required to umpire three AA games. This commitment involves umpiring the bases for two games and then umpiring both the plate and bases for one game (generally, the manager and one of his coaches will share the responsibilities for the third game).
The AA division is not only an instructional division for players and coaches, but also for umpires. Resource allocation dictates that AA games will be umpired by AA volunteers. Each team will be assigned a number of games that they are responsible for. The manager will be required to umpire three of these games.
The AAA division is responsible for umpiring the bases at the Intermediate level. Each team will be assigned a number of games that they are responsible for. The manager will be required to umpire three of these games.
The Intermediate division is responsible for umpiring both the plate and the bases at the AAA level. Each team will be assigned a number of games that they are responsible for. The manager will be required to umpire three of these games.
Penalties for managers (teams) who miss umpire duties without working with the UIC to find a replacement:
Additional offenses may result in further action by the LFLL Board of Directors, which may include manager suspension for the remainder of the season. A penalty for missing the annual required rules clinic will be the addition of one required game.
